Save on Energy
As it is for most businesses, the biggest cost is that of energy. You can start off by developing procedures on switching off office equipment such as computers, printers, lights, fans, etc. This can go a long way in conserving energy.
If at all possible, you can also adjust work hours so that part of your operations are during off-peak hours where off-peak electric rates are applicable. An hour or two every day can add up to huge savings.
Cut Down on Additional Operating Costs
Some smaller businesses with smaller workplace would rent space elsewhere for training, meetings or other short term projects. Unfortunately, while you are renting space elsewhere, it is possible that you are not maximizing on your own resources. To maximize on your own facilities, you can try the following:
- In some cases, training does not have to be scheduled during business hours. In some cases, companies can schedule training on weekends or in the evening from 6 PM to 9 PM or 10 PM. You can also schedule training early in the morning from 6 AM to 9 AM or 10 AM before office hours. This way, you are able to utilize your facilities 100%
- Meetings do not need to be scheduled offsite. If you have a small group meeting, an option could be to use your workstations or work spaces. If the meeting would discuss confidential information, it can be done before or after work hours. Remember, that offsite meetings entail renting spaces, ordering food and drinks. Having meetings within your office space can mean you can make the most out of your resources at your office.
There are a lot of other ways you can save pennies and use those funds for business development or rewards and recognition for your employees. Either way, saving pennies is important to any business whether big or small.
